Dr Rigo’s first specialty was in Allergy and Clinical medicine. However, in 1985 he redirected his career to the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with special interest in Bracing and Physiotherapy for Scoliosis and other spinal deformity conditions, working at the Elena Salvá Institute in Barcelona, Spain. In 1988, Dr Rigo began collaborating with Dr. Jacques Chêneau, who become Dr. Rigo’s mentor. Their work together led to the to the evolution of the Chêneau Brace. Dr Rigo further developed 3D bracing concepts and initiated standardization methods, leading to international recognition for his ‘3D Bracing Concept by Rigo’ (also referred to as Rigo-Cheneau type braces). In 2002, Dr Rigo taught as an Invited Professor at the Bundesfachschule für Orthopädie-Technik Dortmund (BUFA), Germany. In 1991 Dr Rigo commenced teaching on spinal deformities at the Physiotherapy School Gimbernat (Universidad Autónoma Barcelona UAB) until 2017.
Dr. Rigo taught the Schroth method throughout the world from 1989 until 2008 and since then has taught under the name of BSPTS-Concept by Rigo.
BSPTS-Concept by Rigo is an evolution of the original Schroth method, with influences from the French and Italian schools. It is an approach of Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) that is integrated within a Multidisciplinary Scoliosis Care Team, following a Bio-Psycho-Social Model, working in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
Dr Rigo is one of the founding members of the international Society of Scoliosis Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) and was their first Present in 2006 until 2008. He was also Associate Editor of Scoliosis Journal, later called Scoliosis and Spinal Disorders, until 2018.
During his whole professional life, Dr. Rigo has been consulting with children, adolescents, adults and their families from around the world, who suffer spinal deformities, in his clinic in Barcelona (Rigo Quera Salvá SLP), Spain.

- He is one of the Founder Members of the SOSORT and first President (2006-8). Chair of the Educational Committee of the SOSORT (2009-2016)
- Associated Editor of Scoliosis Journal, later Scoliosis and Spinal Disorders until 2018
